In Hyderabad, artisans near Tirumala are preparing to seek a geographical indication tag for their meticulously crafted wooden statues of Lord Balaji and other deities. The artisans, known for their intricate Madhavamala wood carvings depicting lifelike idols and various household items, are members of the Sri Balaji Wood Carvings Mutually Aided Cooperative Society Limited. With support from NABARD, the artisans plan to submit their GI application, making it the 20th application from Andhra Pradesh. GI practitioner Subhajit Saha will assist the artisans in the application process.
